Oval Face Shape

Oval Shape Face

Generally recognized as the ideal facial shape.
Slightly narrower at the jawline than at the temples, with a gently rounded hairline.
 
TRY:
AVOID:
  • Can wear almost any hairstyle!         
  • clean, slicked-back look
  • Single-length cuts
  • Covering up your features with heavy bangs
  • Forward-directed hair styling or brushing forward

Round Shape Face

 
Full-looking face with a round chin and hairline. Widest point is at the cheeks and ears.
Aim: to create the illusion of length to the face.  
TRY:
AVOID:
  • Short hairstyles with a swept-back direction
  • Off-center part
  • Hairstyles with fullness & height at the crown
  • Bangs styked to one side
  • Hair over ears and cheeks 
  • Hair up on one side leaving ears exposed
  • Center parts
  • Really short crops
  • Straight "chopped" bangs
  • Fullness at side and bangs

Rectangular or Oval Shape Face

Long and slender, about the same width at forehead and just below cheekbones. Narrow chin or forehead.
Aim: to make face appear shorter and wider.
TRY:
AVOID:
  • Short to medium lengths
  • Fullness at the sides
  • Soft, wispy bangs
  • Too much length
  • Fullness or height on the top
  • Center parts

Square Shape Face

Straight hairline and square jawline; wide face 
Aim: To create an illusion of length; offset the square features.
TRY:
AVOID:
  • Short to medium lengths
  • Wave or roundness around face
  • Wispy bangs and/or height at top
  • Off center parts
  • Asymmetrical hairstyles
  • Long, straight hairstyles
  • Linear straight bangs
  • Center parts

Heart Shape Face

Face is wide at the temples and hairline, narrowing to a small delicate chin.
Aim: To decrease the width of the forehead and increase the width in the lower part of the face.
TRY:
AVOID:
  • Longer hairstyles
  • Side parts
  • Gently wispy bangs
  • Center part with bangs flipped or slanted to the side.  
  • Short hairstyles
  • Full styles that emphasize upper face
  • Height at the crown
  • Severe, slick-back looks

Triangle or Pear Shaped Face

A dominant jawline that tapers or narrows toward the cheeks and temples.
Aim: to create the illusion of width in the forehead.
TRY:
AVOID:
  • Shorter hairstyles
  • Off center parts
  • Styles that are full at the temples
  • Tapering at the jaw
  • cover forehead partially with a fringe of soft hair
  • Long hairstyles that draw attention to jawline
  • Center part
  • Height at the crown, front and top

Diamond Shape Face

Widest at the cheekbones, and narrow equally at the forehead and jaw line.
Aim: To reduce the width across the cheekbone line.
TRY:
AVOID:
  • A variety of styles, most any shape will look good on you!
  • Weight in the back or nape area
  • Shorter hairstyles
  • Long bangs
  • Hair that hangs over your face
  • Styles that lift away from the cheeks
  • Hair that moves back from the hairline
